BLOG POST- 5

So far I am fine with my work and other responsibilities. As I am staying in my house for the whole time, I take responsibilities for my house. I keep everything clean. My time passes by doing my house cleaning works, homework assignments and midterms for college, helping my sister in her study. These things almost take my whole day, however, I feel a little bored and depressed being whole time inside home although I excercises once everyday. This prevents much of my tiredness and being lazy at all.

Ind Study Step 2: What do you need to know?

In order to contextualize my subject I need to know what exactly makes women struggle to be a ‘Woman’. My project will related or includes ideas as violence against women is often a result of unequal power equations both real and perceived between men and women and is also strongly influenced by cultural factors and values. This means the project more likely focus in what areas and how women face sexual violence and pressure. It will involve more other issues related such as domestic violence, rape case, child sexual abuse, rape within marriage or dating relationships etc. Many have connections with culture and its factors. Sexual violence is likely to occur more commonly in cultures that foster beliefs of perceived male superiority and social and cultural inferiority of women. Although culture is an important factor to understand sexual violence in its entirety. It concerns certain countries such as India, Bangladesh etc. Also, concerns social status as poor sometimes being faced with these kinds of problems. Women with sexual assault often face significant challenges in overcoming their trauma, including diminished mental and physical health, lack of financial resources to access medical care, difficulties maintaining stable employment, housing and a lack of familiarity with accessing resources and trusting service providers. These factors are all related to each other of women living well and strong in every community. In addition, I need to explore at what level these factors are developing and ways to prevent that.

Watch a movie- blog post 4

I watched the movie “Iron Jawed Angels” which is a movie based on the year 1919-1920 situations happened regarding women’s right to vote. Fiery American suffragette Alice Paul lights a fire under the older women’s leaders in Washington DC. President Wilson refuses to give all women the vote, but Paul is prepared to go to prison for her cause. Along with her friend, Lucy Burns and other women, they fought for women’s rights and the ratification of the 19th Amendment. These activists showed their strong support by marching during President Wilson’s initiation and protesting in front of the White House during a war, which many men were angry about. The protests in front of the White House led to activists being arrested and charged them with “obstruction of traffic.” Inside the prison, Alice Paul and the other women went on a hunger strike and were forced fed by authorities with raw eggs and milk. Later, the harsh treatment of the authorities were published in newspapers which put pressure on the President that led to the ratification of 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote. I think this is a good choice for us to look for details about the situations that women faced in those years. This is how it is related to women’s studies. This significant women’s movement is the key for knowing about how women should react in certain inequalities they face.

Carrie Chapman Catt is the chairman of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) who did not see protesting, marching, and hunger strike as the procedure that women should take in order to achieve their goals. She believed that the constitutional amendment that gives women the right to vote will only be vetoed in the Senate and will be a waste of time. In other words, she as well as the other women in their group prefer a state-by-state approach While Alice Paul, thought that in order to achieve their goal they must fight for it no matter what it will cost them. The different views from both, led to Alice Paul getting out of the NAWSA group, and creating her own that they called the Congressional Union for Women’s Suffrage.

According to my opinion, Alice Paul was not known too well by people as much as the other figures because she was not the only woman who fought for the voting rights for women. There were too many women that fought for it, therefore making it difficult for people to remember who exactly succeeded. Also, the fact that our country do not like to pay attention to what women did for our society, because some still do not agree with the decision that gave women the right to vote. Still, a few people believed that women should not have a voice in this country.

A Different Future- Zakia Trisha

The world would looks like every opportunity for women seems so easy for them to achieve. I will see a world with women celebrating every day as victory and having chances to fulfil their dreams as men can do. Women would not sit behind the men and they should not follow their order every-time where it is not appropriate. I will wake up with a day where I could see that my career dreams are front of me and every single day is my step to reach onto that. Inequality between men and women is not a real obstacle that stand on my way. The word “success” would really matter for me in this case. “Success” to me means doing what I love to do every day, while making a positive impact on others and achieving wealth at the same time, without sacrificing my personal life and freedom. To me it comes down to doing what you love, what you’re good at, what you’re passionate about and then feeling valued for doing it. Success was about having the freedom to live by your values. I would see change in Western society, including women’s suffrage; greater access to education; more equitable pay with men; the right to initiate divorce proceedings; the right of women to make individual decisions etc.

What is Feminism?- Zakia Trisha

Feminism is the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes which is organized on behalf of women’s rights and interests. According to ‘Feminism is for everybody’ -Males as a group have and do benefit the most from patriarchy, from the assumption that they are superior to females and should rule over women. But those benefits have come with a price. In return for all the goodies men receive from patriarchy, they are required to dominate women, to exploit and oppress them, using violence if they must to keep patriarchy intact. This makes me think even more such as domestic violence in many countries, raping, discriminating between girls and boys in family etc. These are issues that women tried to fight for their rights. They are not the faulty in those cases but faces struggles which results as the emerge of Feminism. The first issue that should be tackle first is women is workplace or working as labor. Secondly, a significant one is that raping and destroying women’s respect and identity. Literary, the issues are not just these that should be combat. The focal point of my feminist project would be looking to work on rights of Women in color because they faced the most ill-treated life from beginning even at present in certain areas.
